The Taliban Vs. Christian Fundamentalists...What's The Difference?
This past Monday (08/28/12, "American Taliban Testifies Against Prison Ban on Prayer," USAToday), imprisoned American John Walker Lindh, who was captured by U.S. military forces on the battlefield in Afghanistan back in 2001 fighting alongside the Taliban, testified in federal court in Indianapolis. Court records indicate that Lindh (serving a 20-year sentence for conspiring to kill Americans) is challenging an administrative policy for individually-housed prisoners at the Federal Correctional Institution in Terre Haute which forbids group prayer.
As I listened to news reports of this court hearing, I couldn't help but think of how Fundamentalist Christians in America often make similar assertions of "political/religious persecution," especially as it relates to political arena. Then, I got I got to thinking about how similar these two groups are--The Taliban & Christian Fundamentalists--are in other ways...
